This edition is a continuation from a previous blog post which will go through the 14 possible ‘Show Me, Tell Me’ Questions you could be asked during your practical test in Newbury. Regardless of whether you have chosen standard lessons, a semi-intensive driving course, or a full-blown intensive course, it is important that you ask your instructor to go through these with you, so you can ensure that when the time comes you will be able to answer accurately and won’t draw a blank.
4. Tell me how you’d check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use the road.
A: Tread depth should measure 1.6mm across the central 3/4 of the breadth of the tyre, and around the outer circumference of the tyre. Look for bulges or cuts.
5. Tell me how you’d know if there was a problem with your anti-lock braking system.
A: The warning light should illuminate on the dashboard if there is a fault with the anti-lock braking system.
6. Tell me how you’d check the direction the indicators are working.
A: Explain how you would operate the switch (turn on ignition if necessary), and then walk round vehicle to examine (as this is a ‘tell me’ question, you don’t need to get out and check the lights).
7. Tell me how you’d check that the headlights and tail lights are working.
A: You would operate the switch (turn on ignition if necessary), then walk round vehicle (likewise with the previous answer, you don’t have to actually show how it is done).

Having come to Peter with no driving experience, I was brilliantly taught and today passed my test at Basingstoke! I can’t tell you how grateful I am to Peter, he has been a great teacher and I could not recommend him more. His car was ideal, he was very punctual and flexible with his working hours.

Thank you for your review and glad I help Jonno gain his independence and freedom 🙂
