Congratulations Vinit near taking your test at Newbury test centre on Saturday and passing on your first attempt. Having started lessons with another driving school, you made the switch to Peter Skelton Driving School and learned with myself. A great result and I hope you enjoy being able to take your family out 🙂
1. Driving Test Process
One of the cornerstones of UK driving standards is its thorough testing process, which is essential for all new drivers. The test is divided into two main parts:
• Theory Test: This is the first part of the learning process for learner drivers. It includes a multiple-choice test and a hazard perception test. The multiple-choice section tests drivers’ knowledge of the Highway Code, road signs, and various driving scenarios. The hazard perception test evaluates a driver’s ability to identify potential dangers on the road, an important skill necessary to help learners read the road and assess dangers,
• Practical Driving Test: Once the theory test is successfully passed, learners can take the practical driving test. During the test, the driver must demonstrate competent driving skills, including manoeuvres, reading road signs, and responding to traffic conditions. This test also includes a driving section, where drivers must follow either a sat-nav or reading road signs for around 20 minutes.
This testing process ensures that only drivers who have a sound understanding of road rules and the practical skills to navigate complex traffic environments are allowed on UK roads.

I had never driven before and started off extremely anxious. Peter was my second instructor, and switching to him was the best decision I made. From the very first lesson, he made me feel comfortable, confident, and—most importantly—made driving fun and enjoyable. His calm, supportive, and professional approach helped me progress quickly, and I passed my test on my second attempt. Peter is hands down the best automatic driving instructor in Newbury. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for a patient and encouraging teacher!
Hi Vinit.
That is such a great review, thank you so much. So glad I could help you after your previous experience. Passing second isn’t bad at all, especially when you were a bit unlucky on your first attempt near Newbury college. Enjoy your freedom 🙂
