According to an article by dailymail.co.uk, we are likely to see drones scanning Britain’s roads which will identify hazardous potholes. This proposal comes alongside a £15 million government scheme that will be used to improve the UKs roads. However, there is some scepticism regarding the practicality of using drones to search for road damage, as it may be far more reasonable to apply video-technology onto maintenance vehicle’s which are already on the road, which would kill two birds with one stone. And if we weren’t already in the realms of science fiction, they suggest that 3D printers will be used to mend cracks and fill in smaller holes – although it is not yet known how this will be achieved.
The total cost for repairing England’s roads has been estimated at almost ten and a half billion pounds, with some rural areas reportedly having not been repaired in over 100 years. The AA said ‘Extra funding and better use of technology to help tackle potholes, particularly on non-main roads that tend to wait longer for repair, is welcome … However, improved pothole repairs will depend on council priorities and schedules. Councils often prefer to wait until a road has reached a point where a large number of defects makes it cost-effective to repair.’ Whether drones can be called a good use of technology is yet to be seen, but it’ll be interesting to see drones zooming over Newbury as pupils take their driving lessons. It’ll also be a novelty for the UK to have some decent roads.

I’m so very happy with the help and support Peter Skelton Driving School gave to my daughter. She was so incredibly nervous and her instructor, Cathy put her at ease from the start.
