Congratulation Qianyu Yan on passing your driving test in Newbury at Greenham Driving Test Centre. A very good, confident drive and an even better result. You were very easy to teach. Always happy and very easy to get on with. I loved the way you used to raise your hand to ask a question. 🙂 Enjoy the freedom you now have to drive from your home in Andover to you work in Newbury. Stay safe and see you on the road.
It has been a trend for the last few decades that motorists tend to be reducing how many miles they drive each year, and of course this trend skyrocketed last year due to the lockdowns, and we of course had to say a temporary bye-bye to intensive driving lessons. In fact, government data describes a 20% reduction in miles driven in 2019 compared to two decades ago.
Research conducted by the RAC has shown that more than half of UK motorists, including those in Andover and Newbury, think that they are overpaying on their car insurance considering how comparatively few miles they are travelling during the Covid-19 pandemic, with 50% of drivers unable to find a cheaper insurance policy without accruing additional charges. This highlights an apparent inflexibility of many insurance policies, as only 3% of UK motorists believed they could cancel their current policy without being charged an exit fee. A possible reason for the perceived overcharging offered by the RAC is that drivers may not be able to accurately predict yearly mileage, 54% of drivers agreed that this may be the crux of the problem. It is also worth noting that 42% of drivers were unhappy with how much they were paying in relation to mileage, even before the effects of the pandemic. In reaction to the insurance concerns of those surveyed, the RAC’s Head of Insurance, Laura Truman, developed a Pay by Mile insurance policy, which will hopefully reflect the newly formed driving habits people have picked up due to the pandemic.

I recently passed my driving test and couldn’t have done it without Peter’s support. I tend to get very nervous when driving, but he always stayed calm and patient, never once raising his voice or making me feel bad for my mistakes. His advice to “hold the steering wheel like you’re holding an egg” really stuck with me and helped me improve my control. He has a sharp eye for spotting issues and explaining how to fix them in a way that’s clear and encouraging. I genuinely enjoyed every lesson and always felt supported. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for a thoughtful, professional, and confidence-boosting driving instructor!
Hi Qianyu.
Thank you so much for your very kind words. Lessons with you were always fun. You took everything on board and were always asking good questions. Thank you too for teaching me “shoulder to shoulder” in Mandarin, adding top my collection of foreign languages 🙂 Stay safe and see you on the road 🙂
