The London to Brighton Veteran Car Rally is known internationally as the world’s longest running motoring event and takes place every November. It is a celebration of old cars built prior to 1905. In July, an additional rally was introduced with a modern twist. Organised by Brighton-based bus company The Big Lemon and sponsored by EDF, this new event acts as a showcase for electric vehicles and is aptly dubbed ‘The London to Brighton EV Rally’ or L2BEVR for short and is the first exclusively electric vehicle rally to occur in England.
The co-founder of L2BEVRA, Tom Druitt, said ‘We are very excited about the first running of the rally and hope it will become an annual event showcasing the rapid development of electric vehicles and renewable energy.’
EV spokesperson for the RAC, Simon Williams, stated ‘We are delighted to be the official breakdown partner for the first ever London to Brighton EV Rally, particularly as our expert patrols are already well known for helping on the Royal Automobile Club’s Veteran Car Run.’
We are seeing a consistent rise in the number of motorists interested in reducing their carbon footprint by purchasing electric vehicles, with most having automatic transmissions by default. I wonder then, will this trend encourage learner drivers to take on exclusively automatic driving lessons and forgo the classic manual gearstick? And will we see interest in these kinds of events spring up across the country in places such as Newbury? Time will tell.

Thank you!
I couldn’t recommend my instructor Steph enough, she made the process feel so comfortable. It is without a doubt credit to her skill as an instructor that I passed first time with 0 faults. She explained everything very clearly, had helpful instructions and ways of remembering things and as a result I felt confident and prepared ahead of my test. She was able to answer any question I had no matter how big or small and made every part of learning enjoyable.
Asides from being a brilliant instructor, she was kind and compassionate and made lessons feel fun and exciting. I will miss our lessons together, but I know she helped me become a safe and confident driver.
Thank you Beth for your great review and on a great first time pass in Newbury with no faults. See you n the road and enjoy your freedom 🙂
